There’s so much the government could do to address the quality of jobs and wages in Ontario. When you think about the recession in 2008, that was a global recession, right? Yes, it was a global recession, and at that time there was some investment required to make sure that people were able to keep food on the table and survive those challenging times.

”In the second half of 2022, following an alarming decline in legal tobacco sales in Alberta and BC, we commissioned Abacus Data to conduct an independent market assessment. They estimated an illegal market share of 36% in Alberta and 34% BC – higher than anything we have previously seen for those provinces and now the highest rates in Canada. The Public Accounts and recent seizures suggest Saskatchewan may be seeing a similar expansion,” said Mr. Gagnon.

The federal Liberals continue to drive up the carbon tax. Liberals driving people into energy poverty at the federal level and the provincial level—not only are they happy with the current carbon tax; they want to see it triple by 2030. This government is engaged in a straightforward project of privatizing our health care system.

As has been pointed out, the word “affordability” does not appear once. The government seems to be more focused on building million-dollar homes and enriching their friends in the greenbelt. They only retracted that decision when the Auditor General and the Integrity Commissioner basically told the people of Ontario what was really going on. That’s the kind of thing this government seems to be focused on, rather helping the people of Ontario who are, again, struggling with rent, struggling in our health care system, struggling in our education system and struggling with mental health.

Multiple Liberal MPs said they want to see a major cabinet shuffle sweep out ministers who aren’t delivering and pulling their political weight. One source said the caucus has been circulating a list of cabinet ministers some MPs want to see dropped from cabinet. Another Liberal MP said that while Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris is channelling the “sunny ways” messaging that helped bring Trudeau to power abacus market link in 2015, that approach is “no longer resonating” for the prime minister. The cabinet also intends to hash out plans to strengthen Canada’s relationship with the United States ahead of this November’s election. One MP said the high number of temporary foreign workers and international students being welcomed to Canada is one example of a policy decision the prime minister needs to explain to Canadians personally.

I also want to take a moment to thank our former Ministers of Long-Term Care Merrilee Fullerton, Rod Phillips and the government House leader. Because of their work, our government is making historic investments of $6.4 billion to build and upgrade almost 60,000 long-term-care beds here. There are projects like Wellbrook Place that are under way right across the province of Ontario, including over 1,100 beds in Mississauga–Lakeshore alone—more than any other riding in the province of Ontario. My question to the member opposite is, do you agree with our economic statement and will you vote for it?

History will not be kind to those in this moment who acted in vengeance. History will remember people like Vivian Silver, like the Palestinian families I have met at home who, in their grief, have spoken out about family members they have lost and who have built a peace movement that must continue in this country. This resolution should be addressing the serious problems of affordability and home heating. I think Mayor Chow is a wonderful person, but it’s not exactly a response to the question.

Those are the things we should be focused on, Madam Speaker, especially as we think about recovering from the pandemic. The Ontario Infrastructure Bank is much needed and serves as a strong reminder to our people and our businesses that their government is committed to continue building where it matters. With proposed initial funding for the Ontario Infrastructure Bank of $3 billion, this arm’s-length agency would play a pivotal role in financing essential infrastructure projects to support our growing population and our future economic growth.

Energy & Natural Resources

It does so through the proposed extension of gas tax cuts and fuel tax rate cuts until June 30, 2024. We all hear about it as we walk among the members of our community and speak to members in our own communities and our extended families. I have spoken about the undue burden brought on by this tax before, so I am proud to see the work our government is doing to help make life more affordable for Ontarians. As all members of this House already know, our government has made record strides to increase our available housing supply, while also bringing costs down. Whether it’s by enacting the many tranches of our housing supply action plan over the years or through the data standards for planning and development work, my ministry is clearly making efforts to streamline the pre-construction process. And propane is the cleanest of the three; if you look at home heating oil, fuel oil, natural gas and propane, propane is the cleanest, but it’s also the one most prominent in rural Ontario because we have an awful lot of places that natural gas hasn’t gotten to.

RESCON to host annual housing summit in October

For many individuals and families, especially in northern Ontario, the use of fuels to heat their homes is a necessity, not a luxury, and not an option. Unfortunately, for many people in rural and remote communities, they are extremely limited in the options they have when it comes to heating their homes. That’s why I put forward this motion in Ontario’s Legislature formally calling on the federal government to take immediate steps to eliminate the carbon tax on all fuels and inputs for home heating. Why is it so important that this government actually make investments in non-profit and co-op housing—which for whatever reason they refused to do in the fall economic statement even though we’re facing an unprecedented housing affordability crisis? Well, first of all, 0% of rental housing is affordable for a minimum wage worker in almost every city in the province of Ontario; 180,000 households in this province are on a wait-list to access housing.

But on the basis of those documents and a conversation with Mr. Witt, I had predicted Abacus would be “dramatic.” Three years later, I decided it might be interesting to see if my prediction had come to pass. So last week, I took Mr. Witt up on his invitation and made my way to meet him and his publicist, Naomi Kriss, at the site, on Dundas Street West a block or so beyond Ossington Avenue. It involves guesswork and crystal ball-gazing, since one has to look past the dreamily idealized renderings supplied by developers and imagine how the buildings will appear and work after they’re finished. The reporter also has to take care not to be stuck ankle-deep in hype, which is never thicker on the ground than it is during the initial sales period. Architects, for their part, are most eager to talk about their designs before their structures can actually be seen, warts and all. I rarely hear from them after my preview has surfaced in these pages.

  • One of the top issues that my office hears about is tenants who are in positions where their landlord is trying to force them out so that the landlord can increase the rent.
  • We’ll disentangle that, we’ll get the homes built, we’ll get people out of their parents’ basements and into the homes that they deserve.
  • Canada’s standing on the global stage for climate action is disheartening, currently positioned at a sobering 58 out of 63 nations.
  • It’s truly shocking to see that the independent Liberals and opposition NDP continue to support this punitive carbon tax that is making manufacturing materials so much more expensive.
  • Polling Canadians about the topics they are paying attention to, finds Trump’s presidency topping the list, followed by jobs & the economy, climate change, the Khadr decision and housing affordability.
  • Would you like to know more about the Millennial voter?
  • In sum, things are looking good for Trudeau’s Liberals.

And why is the Ontario Liberal caucus, as small as it is, continuing to support their federal cousins in Ottawa? The collective support by Premiers in calling on the federal government to remove the carbon tax on heating pumps and for fairness for all Canadians confirms that this issue is creating significant burdens everywhere across this great country. That is why it is so astonishing that the Liberal and NDP members in this Legislature continue to work against any efforts to make life more affordable for Ontarians.

For a moment she thought she heard cannon fire, then reminded herself that fighting in their region had ceased. The rumbling noises more likely came from the reverberation of trucks carrying soldiers to the front. After years of war, her ears were attuned to real or imagined sounds of artillery.

We cannot continue to go further into debt; we cannot continue to borrow our way to prosperity. We must unleash the economic potential of a strong, vibrant private sector. That is the best way for government to lead towards prosperity, now and in the decades to come. I was a member of the Timiskaming community foundation. I believe at this point they have invested over $4 million back into the community. That’s actually where I learned about public-private partnerships.

Northeastern Ontario under a high forest fire rating

With backing from planners at city hall – Toronto’s official plan foresees such an outcome – developers are raising ever more mid-sized, multi-unit dwellings on arterial streets and thoroughfares in the metropolitan area. Many of these interventions try to slip quietly into their slots in the city’s largely mediocre fabric. In the last six months, RESCON says, Ontario’s population grew by 200,000 but the province had only 37,425 housing starts. RESCON says immediate action is needed to speed up the approvals process and create conditions conducive to building homes.

I think we’re far more similar now in how we use technology to communicate and learn and entertain ourselves than we were at the start of this pandemic. That’s going to be one lasting legacy and it’s affected how we work, how we engage with people. Heck, over the Easter break, for years my family would get together on Good Friday. We’re Italian so Good Friday is a big fish dinner and we did it by Zoom this year.

I want to thank my friend Mr. Jordan for his work in that regard. The disaster relief assistance program wasn’t activated in Ottawa. It was, for some reason, activated in Uxbridge for the same storm, but it wasn’t activated anywhere in the city of Ottawa. What we do know for sure is that climate change is real. Climate change is an existential threat to our society.

In addition to the findings for RTO6 and an aggregated summary for Ontario, we provided a snapshot analysis below of when people are planning to travel, as well as who they are. And while voters can tire of any political leader eventually, Trudeau hasn’t always conducted himself like a politician worried about exhausting the public’s patience. He has been a very public prime minister and he does few things quietly, up to and including his Christmas vacations. “I think the relationship between a political leader and the people is a bit like a marriage,” Liberal MP Marcus Powlowski told reporters this week, venturing a different analogy. “After quite a few years of a marriage, sometimes things don’t quite look as rosy as they were at the beginning of a relationship. And if you ask people why, they can’t point to one particular thing, but it’s a whole bunch of things.” We also find broadly positive perceptions about the economy across income groups and among community types (urban, suburban, and rural).

Uniqueness describes how much the flavour stands out from others in the category, some of the highest uniqueness scores came from flavours including lamb and curry. However, uniqueness is tempered with the second axis, desirability. Desirability is the measure of the likelihood that a consumer wants to actually buy and eat that flavour.

When strategic communications advisors and pollsters want to understand the goings-on of the public sphere, they will often feed a number of high profile issues with significant media play into a survey. They design it in a way to get at a sense of what Canadians are paying attention to, and how they feel the relevant party – in this case the government – is doing on these measures. In its simplest form the output of such a survey might look something like this, from our latest poll. “Epicurean and connected” well that is definitely one of the most elegant ways I’ve heard someone describe the Millennial generation, but nevertheless, accurate. Air France has created a tall order for themselves and cutting prices while increasing their service offering will be a thin tightrope to walk. If there is anything that the young gluten-free gentleman has taught me, it’s that there definitely seems to be a market but as for exactly how big it is, is yet to be seen.
